EDITING SERVICES

As well as crafting some some pretty sublime fiction, I’m available to knock other writers’ books into shape.

The Basics: I can offer anything from a full developmental edit down to a simple proofread, but by far my most popular service is a copy edit, which usually includes a brief comment at the end of every chapter as to whether the book is hitting the mark, and if not, why not.

The Juice: I’ve edited some of the biggest names on Amazon, including Rachel McLean’s Kindle Storyteller Award-winning, multiple chart-topping crime series (more here). I’ve edited crime of all sorts, comedy, horror, action/adventure, middle grade, non-fiction and even financial marketing, and I’ve worked in both British English and American English. If you want formal, I can do formal; if you want casual, I can do that too. I can switch between voices and tenses, and I’m even prepared to throw in an Oxford comma if you absolutely insist. I am, in short, both very good and very versatile.

The Tech: I work in Word, using Track Changes. If you’re using Scrivener or some whacky I-Product to write your books, you should be able to export it to Word and import the finished product afterwards.

The Details: Drop me an email on joel@joelhames.tv to discuss availability, pricing and suitability. If I’m not run off my feet, I can usually fit in a free short sample edit to help you make up your mind.
